How often should I paint my house?

How frequently you repaint your house depends on many factors like where you live, the type of materials your home is made with, and the quality of the materials you use for the project.

Depending on where you live, the exterior paint of your home will have different requirements. Coastal homes, for instance, have intense solar heat, salty sea air and sand, and exposure to those elements mean you'll probably demand a lot more exterior painting to uphold your house.

The quality of the paint you pick will add to its durability; it's essential to select high-quality paints and painting materials. Lessen costs now, and you'll find yourself redoing the project sooner than you may have anticipated. Remember before you paint, plan. Starting with a clean, well-sanded surface free of any mildew, cracks, or rot will help ensure exterior paints accurately adhere to that surface.

And if you believe you can get away with just one coat, think twice. While a one-coat application can look tidy to your eye, applying two coats of exterior paint will enhance its longevity against the environment.

You may find reports that would recommend you repaint your home every other year but the time may be as long as 10-12 years, All depends on various circumstances that we will be discussing in this article!

MATERIALS Applied FOR THE LAST PAINT JOB: This is the first and principal factor on which the duration of repainting depends. If you have applied good quality products from branded and well-known companies your work will last a more extended period (around 5-10 years). On the other hand, any local brand applied for the last paint job would need a repaint after a period of a year or two. Inexpensive materials employed for last paint job can result in cracks or paint peeling off which would require a repaint in a shorter span.

CAN MY HOUSE BE PAINTED IN THE WINTER?
At Gio's Painting Ltd, we understand that some homeowners have inquiries about having the exterior of their homes painted during winter months. The truth is, exterior house painting can be completed in winter months, as long as the outdoor temperature is 2 degrees or higher, and the right type of paint is applied.

And of course, each penny counts! Nothing is for free and repainting would certainty stretch your pockets,  so you need to make a decent estimate for everything before you settle for repainting your house. And when you are all set, call on a contractor who would help you by providing the proper advice.

The walls in the corridors see a lot of wear and tear. These areas get overused and abused thousands of times. They will have scuff marks, finger marks and maybe dents and cracks below the surface that ruin the aesthetics of your home. If the paint that was applied was of high-quality washable paint, these walls could be washed occasionally. Based on our home painting experience in Calgary, Alberta, hallways get painted more frequently than other areas of a house, likely about every 2 to 3 years.

Bedrooms

The worth of the walls of a bedroom usually lasts for a longer time. Bedrooms, as a rule, do not see as much action and do not need regular painting. The obvious exception is kid's bedrooms. For kids, the walls become a space for doodling. It is a right approach here to use top quality paint with a higher sheen. These types if paints quite frequently can be scrubbed clean and make the color last longer.

Another good approach is to paint a segment of a wall with chalkboard paint. This will encourage the kids to express their creativity on a predefined wall surface and expectedly leave the other walls alone. The fact is, where kids spend a lot of time, wall paint does not last very long. Children rooms get painted more frequently than other bedrooms, perhaps every 2-3 years.

Living / Dining Rooms

Painting in these rooms tends to last longer, despite them being used quite regularly. These rooms oftentimes tend to be filled with more social activities. But it is assumed that higher quality paint and decoration is utilized in these areas, as they are used to showcasing the decoration of a house. A living room is the crown of your hotel which makes your entire home look beautiful.

Choosing to repaint these rooms is often followed by a complete or notable change of decor and style. For all these reasons, painting every 5 to 7 years is very general.

Kitchen / Bathrooms

The kitchen and bathrooms have considerably more ware and tare on the walls than the living or dining rooms, so you may require freshening up these walls more frequently. These are the busiest rooms, which have high potential to ruin the walls. Particularly in the kitchen, you should have a paint that can be cleaned regularly. Always favor a pearl or satin finish paint for your kitchen. It becomes simple to scrub and maintain over the years.

In bathrooms, the main culprit is humidity and moisture. You need to realize why that paint is peeling off the walls to keep them healthy. Gio's Painting suggests colors be applied on humid areas should all be water based as they are longer lasting. The paint job in these rooms does not last as long and needs to be done every 3-4 years. Proper ventilation will let some of the humidity escape and extend the time between painting.

Exactly, we have kids in our home. Specially at the age 1-3 they just draw stuff on our walls and is it really hard to erase them without damaging the paint. On that case you need to repaint your walls. I think there is no need to regulate your house's paint. Just do it if the paint looks dull anymore, or damaged or cracking. In short if the paint looks obviously not good in the sight, repaint it., if it is alright, then just save you money.
