Unless you created your kitchen from scratch, with a custom layout and cabinets, it's seemingly not perfect for your needs. But new cabinets can soon eat up a small remodeling budget, and re-designing the kitchen isn't normally an option if you rent. Tall CabinetsRenew your existing cabinets and stretch them up to ceiling for added storage. You can also leave some shelves open for displaying personal items and storing stuff you often need. Pull-out Waste and Recycling BinsThere was no proper spot for our garbage and recycling in our kitchen. There wasn't room under the sink, and there wasn't a spot for freestanding containers that wasn't in the way of additional stuff. So we decided to build pull-out bins in a cabinet, and they were the complete solution. They keep our garbage and recycling easy to access, but out of the way!. - tip: If you have an additional inch or two, put a cup of baking soda near the wall behind the bins to absorb odors. The installation simple, although we had to do additional prep work because our cabinets were built with non-removable shelves. To do it yourself, you'll require to buy the pull-out slides, and a door kit if you need the door to be attached to the front of the slides. If you have pull-out cabinets, select one of those as your garbage bin. Prefer to take the under drawer of your cabinet as bin. The drawer right under the sink or cooking space could be the ideal option. Sink tip-out trayMany traditional kitchens have false drawer panels in front of the sink. There isn't space for a whole drawer because of the bowl, but you can regularly fit a tip-out tray. It's ideal for corralling scrubbers and sponges that might otherwise clutter up your counter. To install mine all I needed to buy was a kit, and then pried off the adhered and nailed-on drawer panel. It took two people to help line up the hinges and panel when it was put on. Vertical Pan StorageStoring baking pots and sheets vertically versus piling them is the difference between filing and piling paper. They are so much simpler to access when stored vertically, so if you have a lot of pans, I highly suggest this hack. Storing your baking pans and sheets vertically may save some extra space in your utensil drawer. To do this, buy pre-made pan organizer racks or make a few tweaks in your existing racks. You may also use tension rods to divide the shelves. Build a Custom Spice RackIn almost every home, you’ll encounter a messy spice cabinet that is packed with tipped-over containers and badly organized spices. Having all of your ingridients in one spot is great, but you also don’t require to take up an whole cabinet to do so! Adding a shallow, framed cabinet to an unoccupied wall space is always an option, or you can create your own spice rack cheap with repurposed materials, functional organizers, or pallets. Pull-out DrawersIf you have low, long shelves, getting things from the back may be challenging. You could put things only in the front, where they're easy to reach, but then you're giving up room that you may need. The best answer is pull-out drawers. Drawer OrganizersDrawer organizers might look like a clear kitchen solution, but if you have non-standard drawers or appliances, it might not be likely to buy an off-the-shelf version. Custom Spice ShelvesIf you cook regularly, you've probably collected a lot of different herbs and spices. Having a spice rack to arrange them is a huge help, but you might not think you have the room. There are several ways to fit a spice rack in places you might not have considered, though. There are pre-made and DIY door-mounted spice shelves you might be able to fit in your cabinets. Door-Mounted Paper Towel HolderI recommend to use reusable kitchen cloths when possible, but paper towels surely have their use. So having paper towels somewhere convenient, but not out on the counter, is the intention. Stacking ShelvesThese are a must for tall, non-movable shelves. They double your shelf space and can be utilized for everything from pans to plates. Double up the shelf area in your cabinet by attaching shelves to a tall cabinet space. These can be efficiently used to store plates and pans. You can also fix shelves on the doors of your cabinets for storing containers and other vertical supplies. Under-Cabinet Toe-Kick DrawersSeI have to agree that in my case, adding this under-cabinet drawer was more for innovation than anything else. There was already an opening below one of my cabinets where there used to be duct work and a heating register, so I turned it to a secret drawer, finished with push-to-open drawer slides and toe-kick trim on the front. It's perfect for hidden storage. More significant, more practical toe-kick drawers could be a storage blessing in a compact kitchen.
If you’ve got an area under your cabinet, then install under-cabinet drawers. They are an excellent choice for utilization of that space. Having a small kitchen or limited wall space doesn’t mean that you must deal with cluttered counter tops and drawers! With a little of imagination and some DIY techniques, you can improve the value, appeal, and functionality of your kitchen in no time—at a price that is significantly less than a complete kitchen overhaul.
